Man Charged in Drunk Driving Crash Involving Jennifer Lopez, Leah Remini
A drunk driver crashed into the Rolls Royce… of Jennifer Lopez. It all went down in Malibu, when the singer-actress was stopped at a traffic light on PCH with her two kids… and the guy, who was driving at nearly twice the legal blood-alcohol limit, hit her from behind with his pick-up truck.

Sources say it may cost him a $1000 fine and up to six months behind bars. And I’m sure, whatever it might cost to get that Rolls Royce repaired… Thankfully, no one got hurt.

Taylor Swift is a Goody Two Shoes, and I Dig It.
I just love hearing when celebs do good, which is probably why I’m so in love with Taylor Swift… She just topped the list of DoSomething.org’s “Celebs Gone Good” list.

Also on the list: Beyonce, queen of Controversy — Miley Cyrus, One Direction, John Legend, Zendaya, Demi Lovato, and even… Justin Bieber!

The list commends Taylor Swift for what they called a “feminist awakening”, in addition to donating the proceeds from her single “Welcome to New York” to NYC’s public schools.

Other shout-outs were given to Beyonce for her #BeyGood campaigns and Miley Cyrus for her VMA acceptance speech that raised awareness to homeless youths as well as raising $200,000 in a single day.

Laverne Cox and Emma Watson helped round out the top 5.

Snow Fall is not a permit to be stupid.
Awesome news, if you haven’t heard it, a winter storm warning is in effect till tomorrow which means snow for some of us!

Bad news is we’re really not used to this stuff, so here are a few quick tips on how NOT to fail if the snow falls in your area, Courtesy of Managing News Editor Tami Roleff:

If traveling into mountains, bring chains for your vehicle. Don’t pass the snowplow (the road will be worse in front than behind). Decrease your speed and leave plenty of room between you and the vehicles in front of you. Brake gently; tap your brakes to stop. If your wheels start to lock up, ease off the brake. Turn on your headlights, not your fog lights. Use low gears to keep traction, especially when going up hills. Don’t use cruise control. Remember, black ice is nearly invisible. Slow down and don’t challenge Mother Nature.

Enjoy building snowmans… well, I guess it doesn’t have to be a snowman…

Phone scams really do exist!
So you get this phone call, right? On the other end, an attorney is claiming to represent a family member who was in a car accident after driving drunk. He’ll need $5,000 for bail money in the form of a moneypak at a local drugstore.

Seems a little farfetched, doesn’t it? Technology is advancing and so are the creative new ways scammers are trying to get to you. Know what’s even scarier? If you use cash or a money transfer, you may even lose your right to dispute the fraudulent charges!

Believe it, phone scams really DO exist, and they can (and probably will) happen to you at some point in your life… so always make sure you’re ready to protect yourself from them. Report all scams to the Federal Trade Commission — you can contact them online or at a phone number on their website.

Getting It Straight

I have no idea where to begin. I’m not even quite sure what I’m doing here… But I know that sometimes I think so much I wish that I could spit it all out on something so I can move on with the rest of my day and be over the millions of thoughts that run through my head.

I won’t be sharing those millions with you right now. I just want to write. For no reason. So I dug up a few prompts about the new year, which I found pretty fitting. I’ve set up a timer for 10 minutes and will do as many as I can without backtracking, editing, or changing my answers. Here I go…

Make one New Year’s resolution. How will you establish a routine to keep it?
I’ve been feeling the need to become healthy in ways other than just physically. I want to become mentally healthier and most importantly, spiritually healthier. I plan to designate time for myself on a daily basis. More on this later…

Make a list of three people who need encouragement. How will you make their lives brighter and easier?
My husband, my mom, and my sister Jane. I would say my other two siblings as well, but these are my top three. For my husband, I hope to become more accepting of myself and my flaws, so that I don’t deflect my issues on to him, and to support him in his new hobby. For my mom — I created her food blog. I’ll do whatever I can to make sure she uses it to its fullest potential. My sister Jane is getting married next year. I want to make sure that she understands that no matter what, everything will be ok. I will designate time to be with her — she’s great company anyway. Not that my presence will make a difference, but I just want to make sure she knows she means a lot to me.

Why do people make resolutions?
I believe people make resolutions because they want to satisfy the need to change, and to improve themselves. If you didn’t have resolutions (not necessarily annually), it would be like failing to polish something beautiful. It would be like letting yourself become withered and waste away. It would suck balls.

If you could have a New Year’s wish, what would it be?
For the world to be more open minded and communicate more. I guess…

How do you feel at the start of a new year?
I feel regretful for not accomplishing all the things I set out to do. But I feel anxious for all the great things I have planned, and grateful for how I’ve come and what I’ve learned.

Whew! That was a quick 10 minutes but it definitely made me more aware of some of the thoughts I’ve been keeping buried. Only scratching the surface for now.

I’m resisting the temptation to proof this… more tomorrow, or whenever! No, tomorrow! I’m promising myself this.
